Diva Icon #3: Jackie O

First lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is onmisbaar in de diva-serie. This week: how to dress, live and love like the fabulous Jackie O.

First lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis has to be in the diva series. The closest thing America got to a royal family was the Kennedy's - and we all know it's a great woman that's behind a great man. Jackie is art history, elegance and grace, all in a stylish Chanel pillbox hat. As a real New Yorker dressed in pearls and oversized sunglasses, who could appreciate the glamorous heritage of French fashion houses she was offered a function at Vogue (which she refused),  was constantly on the cover of Time and invested all of her time and self in the American cultural heritage, even long after her first husband J. F. Kennedy died. This week: how to dress, live and love like the fabulous Jackie O.

On love and music:

In the National Anthem video clip Lana del Rey (biiiig girl crush) plays both mistress and wife (Marilyn Monroe and Jackie) of president John Kennedy (role translated by a very badass A$AP Rocky). I am madly in love with the song and video, but the motion picture is also a great inspiration source. (Come on, don't we all want a first lady's baby blue dress, garden full of red roses, tiger skin on a marble floor and a president eating whipped cream Birthday cake out of our hands?)

And I remember when I met him it was so clear that he was the only one for me. We both new it right away. And as the years went on, things got more difficult we were faced with more challenges. I begged him to stay. Try to remember what we had in the beginning. He was charismatic, magnetic, electric and everybody knew him. When he walked in ever women’s head turned, everyone stood up to talk to him. He was like this hybrid this mix of a man who couldn’t contain himself. I always got the sense that he became torn between being a good person and missing out on all of the opportunities that life could offer a man as magnificent as him. In that way, I understood him. And I loved him, I loved him, I loved him. And I still love him, I love him…”

The hair and make-up looks:

Jackie was a natural, we won't be in need of any red lipstick or fake lashes to do her look. All we might consider is a good BB cream, bronzer, eyebrow pencil and mascara. Jackie had a gorgeous, natural tan (born in Southampton, baby!) A great idea to try this week are the frost pink lips. A good tutorial video is to be found here. When it comes to hair - I've found a good tutorial for short hair here. If yours is long you can do it like in Lana's video - teased up front and combed back in a bump, sleek with lots of volume. Or you can just do a straight hair updo, like a french twist or a big bun.

Trivia & guotes:

Now, I think that I should have known that he was magic all along. I did know it — but I should have guessed that it would be too much to ask to grow old with and see our children grow up together. So now, he is a legend when he would have preferred to be a man.

One man can make a difference and every man should try.

Everytime we got off the plane that day, three times they gave me the yellow roses of Texas. But in Dallas they gave me red roses. I thought how funny, red roses — so all the seat was full of blood and red roses.

She changed the White House from a plastic to a crystal bowl.

Several times Jackie was offered a washcloth and a change of clothes, but she said, “No. Let them see what they’ve done to Jack.”

Coco Chanel said: "You never know, maybe today is the day a woman has a date with destiny. It's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny." And those words were never more true than when Jacqueline Kennedy chose a chanel dress to wear on the fateful day of november 1963.
